Most air fresheners are a can of propellant and a scent that is loud for ten minutes and gone in twenty. We wanted the opposite: a concentrate you mix at home, in the bottle you already own, that behaves the way each room needs it to. Today it is live. Six scents, six rooms, one bottle that makes 10 litres.

The same arithmetic as the rest of the range

The Air Freshener is a House & Co. concentrate like the Deep Cleaner: one part in twenty. Pour 24 ml into the free 500 ml trigger bottle, top it up with tap water to 476 ml, close and turn gently. One 500 ml bottle of concentrate refills that trigger bottle twenty times, which is 10 litres of room and fabric spray, for EGP 789. A 300 ml ready-made room spray costs between EGP 120 and 180 in Egypt, which is EGP 400 to 600 a litre. Ours works out at EGP 78.90 a litre, and there is no can to throw away.

Six scents, each with a job

A single "fresh" scent for the whole house is a compromise in every room. So each of the six is blended for one moment, and set to release the way that moment needs.

• Lavender & Vetiver, for the bedroom. A slow-release blend: heart and base notes with a fixative, so it is soft at bedtime and a trace by morning. Spray bedding, curtains and upholstery an hour before bed.
• Lime Leaf & Basil, for after cooking. Odour-capture technology, the same actives as the Odour Neutraliser, so it takes the frying smell out of the curtains instead of covering it. Spray the air, cloths and bins after cooking.
• Warm Cotton & White Musk, for linen and wardrobes. Musks chosen to hold on cotton. Bedding, towels, curtains and the inside of wardrobes.
• Saffron & Amberwood, for the evening. A long dry-down: one spray holds the room for the evening. Curtains and upholstery before guests arrive.
• Sea Salt & Sage, for the living room. A fast lift: full within a minute, clear by the afternoon, so it does not fight the evening scent. Curtains and cushions when you open the house in the morning.
• Black Tea & Fig, for the bathroom. A balanced release that reads the same at ten minutes and at two hours. Towels and shower curtains.

How to use it

Two or three pumps for a room, into the air and lightly onto fabric. Do not saturate, and test on a hidden area first. Never spray the concentrate itself, and do not mix it with bleach or other cleaners. Bleach-free, near-neutral pH, so it is kind to the fabrics it lands on.

The bottle you already have
